Ryan entered the MTC on wednesday on his way to Milan, Italy in 9 weeks. He was so excited. We have not heard from him yet. Liz tracked him down at the MTC and took a phone picture in the MTC on day 2 saying he was adjusting well. :)
Last spring and this summer, Ryan was fortunate enough to be working with NASA at JPL-NASA in Pasadena and worked on the Curiosity Rover that is landing tonight on Mars. He was working is the metrology department - the department of micro measuring and most of the summer calibrated instruments to the nanometer. This department has been working on elements of the Rover for years. He saw the completed rover and saw the landing being tested. He signed his name in a book (of people who worked on the project) that was shrunk into a microchip and went up to Mars with the Rover, so his name is going to land on Mars tonight. (hence his name is landing on Mars). By working there this summer he was able to pay for over half of his mission himself. Mary Alice wanted everyone to know about his name landing on Mars. :)

Here is a photo of the full sized Rover double that Ryan watched at JPL-Pasadena as they were testing lunar landing conditions. I read how the tires make treadmarks of the letters JPL in morris code.
