shipped to Italy

Ryan left for Italy yesterday.  He got to talk to Jeremy and Camille on the phone. Ryan told Camille that the MTC was an amazing experience and it was a lot of fun and he learned a lot at the Mission Training Center.   Jeremy said he sounded happy and enjoyed talking to him.

Ryan's plane trip was 15 hours long with layovers in Chicago and London.  He traveled with 7 others going to Milan.  Ten more trained in his group that went to the Rome mission.  Ryan arrived safely and on time today and was greeted my his Mission President, President Wolfgramm who has been the mission president there for two years.

There are now eight stakes in Italy.

He met Ryan and then had several missionaries escort Ryan and the other 7 new missionaries assigned to Milan, Italy Mission to downtown Milan to do a little bit of sight seeing- to visit the Duomo (the Cathedral) and other sites in downtown Milan.  He then will have dinner with the mission president, stay in a local hotel, then go to his assigned area tomorrow.

He is assigned to a town one and a half hours south of Milan, Reggio Emellia and his companion Elder Fiorentino , who is from Florida and has been out over a year.  His companion will train his new missionary  or a “greenie”.  (Ryan) .

Just a few more photos of the city of Reggio Emillia, Ryan's first area.

The mission president said that his area includes Parma known for its parmesan cheese and prosciutto.   The area also has a lot of immigrants and many of the people interested in the church are not from Italy. He is near Modena known for the source of balsamic vinegar and Lamborghinis.   His ward is in the Verona stake(the Reggio Emellia ward)  his ward includes he and his companion and a set of sisters also serving.

Reggio Emillia is between Parma and Modena  and two hours south of Milan (by train)  and one hour 45 minutes north of Florence.

His companion is a convert from Florida and a college graduate and a karate black belt who, according to his mission president is out for the right reason, humble, sharp and one of his best.
